I have found that  Auditory Processing Disorder  is a word that is often bandied about as a “cover all bases” term but the disorder has far reaching consequences in terms of  a child’s academic performance.

Auditory Processing refers to the ability to identify,interpret and attach meaning to sound that is heard.  This can be in the absence of a physical hearing loss.

Because of its complex nature, treatment of Auditory Processing Disorder is multi dimensional.

Auditory Processing Studio by Virtual Speech Center is an app that addresses this in a great deal of depth using a bottom-up approach.

Auditory Discrimination, Phonological Awareness and Auditory Closure skills are addressed.

Each of these foundation skills is broken down into sub-skills/levels.

Each level contains 50 trials.

There are a total of 2450 stimuli.

The above activities can be practiced in the presence of competing noise.

Five different types of background noise can be selected and the intensity of the noise can be selected.

What I like:

• Grading and depth of tasks
• Clean user interface and ease of use

What I would like:

• The ability to randomize activities instead of having to complete all 50 items on each level.
•  Playing the musical instruments using different music back-trackswas fun the first time round, but the children got bored with this very quickly were not motivated to persevere with tasks.

This is a great App founded on sound theoretical principals and complements Virtual Speech Studio’s Auditory Workout App.
