Love your iPhone and other high-tech gadgets? If you’re already using your smartphone to check in with your peeps, now you can also use it to track your poops and other aspects of gut health.

People living with digestive conditions such as IBS tend to be a tech-savvy population, observes Arun Swaminath, MD, a gastroenterologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. “Mobile apps can remind people to take their medications, help track symptoms, and communicate them during an office visit,” says Dr. Swaminath, adding that without data from the apps, people often forget what happened since their last office visit.
